MASAL VADAI

It is one of my favorite snacks, sometimes it will be dinner for me. It is very tasty food. Combination of  vada and payasam is very famous in south India.

Ingredients

Channa dal - 1 cup
urud dal      - 2 tbs
Red onion chopped - 1/3 cup
Red chillies - 4
Green chillies - 4
Garlic crushed -  2 or 3 pods
Ginger - 1 inch piece
Fennel seeds/ cumin seeds - 1tsp
Cilantro - 1/4 cup
curry leaves - 1 bunch
Mint - 2 stalk (optional)
Salt - as required
Oil - for deep fry

 Method:

  1. Soak channa dal and urud dal for 1 or 2 hours.
  2. Grind red chillies, ginger and salt in the mixie. Also grind channa dal and urud dal coarsely, not smooth. Don't grind much, just switch on for few seconds. That is enough.
  3. In the coarse mixture, add cilantro, curry leaves, fennel seeds or cumin seeds, chopped green chillies, crushed garlic and onion, then mix well.
  4. Make a small balls, then flatten it by pressing it with two hands and drop it into the heated oil for deep fry.
  5. you can deep fry 5 to 7 vadas at a time. It depends on how much oil we use and how large the pan is.
  6. Deep fry in the medium flame until both the side get brown color and should be cooked .
  7. Finally serve it with payasam, any sweets or as it is.
